Cinematography

Cinematography is an art form that involves capturing moving images on camera, with the aim of conveying a particular story or emotion. The role of the cinematographer is crucial in achieving this, as they are responsible for choosing the right camera equipment, lenses, framing, and lighting to create specific results. This course is designed to give students an introduction to cinematography and provide them with hands-on experience in the role of a cinematographer. Over the course of 48 hours, which will be spread over two months, students will be able to gain knowledge about the rules of cinematography and the tools used by cinematographers to execute their work.

The course covers several main subjects, which include basic camera settings and a technical understanding of a camera’s different menu options and settings, as well as how they affect the end product. Students will also learn about lenses and their uses, and how different lenses can be used not only to deal with light and sharpness but also to set a mood and tell a story. Additionally, students will be taught basic mise-en-scène, framing, and the movement within the frame, and how these can be used to bring across a concept and emotion. The course will also delve into different types of framing options and their uses, as well as the relationship of lighting to the frame. By the end of the course, students will have gained valuable experience and knowledge in cinematography, providing a solid foundation for their future endeavors in this field.
