Lighting
The subject of lighting is a crucial component in any film production, and it serves as the backbone of the entire process. Students who enrol in a lighting course will be introduced not only to the subject of lighting but also to basic electricity, which is integral to lighting. Upon completion of the course, students will have the knowledge and skills required to take on the role of an assistant gaffer or continue studying the subject at a university level. The course will cover a wide range of topics, including an introduction to lighting, the different types of fixtures and their uses, colour mixing for lights, basic three-point lighting setup, DMX 512 settings and programming, basic lighting scenarios, basics of electric safety , and rigging basics such as securing lights and trusses. By mastering these subjects, students will gain the confidence and ability to apply their knowledge in real-life film production scenarios.
